How the art is made.
Bandit is a Denver, CO-based dog bandana label that prints limited runs of original artwork. Each drop is eight designs, printed to order in the US, retired once the run sells out.
The artwork is generated, curated and sampled — AI-assisted, human-finished, and we say so. No characters, no logos, no licensed brands. Just patterns that look like they came from a design store, not a pet aisle.
Generated
Every collection starts with hundreds of concepts. We brief the idea — aspens in October, a moose in an alpine lake, a field-guide trout — and use image models to explore it fast: palettes, densities, how a motif repeats. Most of what comes back is wrong in interesting ways.
That's the point of the stage. It's a sketchbook, not a product.
Curated
Roughly one in forty survives the cut. The ones that do get rebuilt by hand: the repeat is redrawn so it tiles cleanly at bandana scale, colours are pulled back to a palette that prints, and anything that reads as a character, a logo or somebody else's brand is out.
What ships is a pattern a person chose and finished, with the seams where they should be.
Sampled
Nothing lists until it's been printed, washed and worn. We check the print holds its colour in the sun, the fabric moves when the dog does, and the motif still reads once it's folded on the diagonal and tied. If a design only works flat, it doesn't make the drop.
Why we say so
Upfront about the tools.
Image models are part of how these patterns get made, the way a camera is part of how a photograph gets made. Pretending otherwise would be a strange way to start a relationship with someone who’s about to tie our work on their dog.
So the line on every page is the honest one: original artwork, AI-assisted, human-curated. A person chooses what survives, rebuilds it by hand, and puts it on a real dog before it lists. If a design is derivative of anyone’s character, logo or brand, it’s cut — that’s the rule we hold hardest.
